Gooch Too Children Photography » Contemporary children photography in Chicago, Illinois.

Yesterday, I featured a  few of my favorite instagram feeds. Since this is a photo business, a visual-only related faves post probably makes sense. Well today, we’re taking a look at ladies that incorporate both word and visual to elevate the game. Because here at Gooch headquarters, we really dig words.

A couple bloggers to take notice if you’re into that:

Yellow Brick Home

Run and operated by a close friend of mine, Kim Vargo. Her blog is a great resource for all sorts of projects you might do around your home. She’s currently renovating her home in Logan Square with her husband, two dogs and two cats. At the time of purchase it was run down and smelly. I ran out of it as fast as the tour was over, it was that bad. But now, it’s kind of amazing beautiful. Oh and it was me (7 years ago) that told Kim one night while sipping a glass of red wine, “you know you HAVE to start a blog, like now!” And with some heavy (pushy) swaying on my end (and her husband’s) she did it.

Jessica Murnane

Full disclosure, Jessica no longer lives in Chicago, but that’s a recent-ish thing. And I discovered her here, so I’m including her in this list! She has a pretty awesome podcast centered around wellness and good eating. I found her by accident. At first her podcast wasn’t really for me. But then it was. I listened again and fell hard. As it gets uber quiet here while editing photos…hearing her interviews fills the void and feels like I’m sitting on a couch with my best friend. She’s on a break right now, writing a cookbook…but there are plenty of pods to listen to in the meantime.

Chi City Fashion

Chi City is a fashion blog….as the name hints. A lot of them exist on the interwebs. A lot! Searching for the perfect fashion blog that fits your style and/or style goals often ends up as the black hole of surfing.  For me, at least. And surprisingly it was my boyfriend that clued me in on her. She’s a Chicago girl. And for me, her writing style just nails it. So well. Usually with a fashion blog it’s the visual that grabs me but with Jena, it’s all about her choice words.

The Bloggess

Not a chicagoan. I’m sneaking her in. Because she makes me laugh all the time.  Favorite all time post: Beyonce the Chicken (my rename).

Social media has me all hooked. It’s sloooow season here and while I really am working, I find myself on the instagram probably too frequently. Here are just a few Instagrams I love to peruse:

  • Lila Skye Kalis is a toddler that can drive a car possibly better than me…or at least park better. She’s mesmerizing to watch. Must press play to see her in action!

Tree'd him plus weight advantage. Check the doubles. ????????

  • Samantha Lee is a food artist from Malaysia. In an effort to encourage her daughter to eat more adventurously she started this. And it evolved. And I love it.

Pumpkin the Raccoon First, it’s a raccoon named pumpkin. It lives in a home. With a dog…that it seems to love. And acts like a human. So much goodness here.

Hilaria Thomas Baldwin Yep, she’s sort of celebrity status. Which might not seem cool to like. But I do. She’s a yogi, mom, super giving, real, funny and writing a cookbook. All of which I enjoy.

They melt my heart ??

Camp the Pigeon Similar idea with the raccoon I guess. Any questions about this little pigeon living in a home, check out this great interview about Camp and their family. It’s worth a listen. Short and sweet.

Baby Sideburns Off the rails funny lady. Inspired by just about everything, particularly her kids. Every post, she nails it. Want to know a little more about her…my interview with her here.

And when I say the first family…I mean the first of the year for 2016! Starting off at a slow pace, but maybe more a thoughtful one. Giving time to consider smart directions to take business wise and otherwise. Will be featuring lots of families shot (photographed) last year and the present regularly, from here on out. That’s one direction. And excited for just a few other new ideas to finally come to fruition.

In the meantime, hope you enjoy a few shots from this fam of four. X, their son, has one of those personalities one does not tire of. Creative, funny, quirky and smart. And P, their sweet daughter, you just want to give her a big hug. Completely adorable.
